Flip flops lead to serious misalignment in your ankles – Flip flops seem like the ideal choice during summer months. However, let’s take a closer look at them and see if the health facts behind it make these a good option. First, you can’t really call flip flops comfortable because they rub between your toes and can cause skin damage. Second, wearing them can lead to misalignment in your ankles and knees due to the fact your feet are not supported properly. On a final note, when walking in flip flops you will likely notice your feet will feel tired faster and it’s almost impossible to run. That makes this type of footwear bad in terms of health benefits.
High heels can cause nerve damage – Women love high heels because they look great and make their legs stand out. However, more damage is being done to your body than you may realize. Wearing high heels often leads to sprains, ingrown toenails, nerve damage, and even lower back pain. To avoid some of these problems it’s recommended that you make sure everyday heels are no higher than 3 inches. Remember, you can always change your shoes at the office or your final destination as well.
Flat shoes put pressure on the plantar fascia – This is probably the most surprising of all. Most people don’t think flat shoes can do any damage to your body, but indeed they can! This type of shoe does most of its damage because there isn’t any arch support, and that causes there to be more pressure on the plantar fascia. As a result, you experience pain in both your knees and back. Still, that doesn’t mean you need to go and throw all of your flat shoes out. Instead, go out and buy some orthotic inserts which will fix the position of your feet.
Platform shoes ruin the mechanism of walking – Platform shoes are not flexible and usually have rigid foot beds. Our legs need more forgiving shoes because our feet need to be able to bend in a certain way. Shoes should repeat and reinforce the movement of the our feet and these types of shoes actually do the opposite. With that in mind, it’s best not to wear platforms very often.
