How A Relationship Makes Your Life Happier And Healthier

Dating can be an enjoyable experience and I would suggest everyone do at least some dating before deciding whom to settle down with. I say that because as we grow and date different kinds of people, we begin to discover the little things that are most important in both our partner and relationship. Not to mention, the unique experiences that go along with the dating scene. Think about it – going to new places and meeting new people, feeling the excitement of a potential new relationship. But honestly, do you really enjoy dating over long periods of time? Do you like the stress of deciding where to go, how to dress, and what to talk about? Do you have fun while struggling to make it through dinner without wanting to climb out of the bathroom window? Exactly! After a certain point dating just isn’t fun anymore. Once someone has experienced the dating scene a few times they begin to crave something more; Someone to settle down and get committed with. But, that doesn’t mean your relationship has to get boring. In fact, science has proven that just being in a relationship with someone makes your life happier and healthier. Listed below are just a few reasons being in a relationship is good for both your body and life.

How Relationships Make Life Happier And Healthier

1. You’re less selfish – How many times have you been too tired to cook for yourself? For me, it’s too many to count. But, if I know my partner is coming home after a long day it will light a fire under me, and I’m willing to go above and beyond just to make them feel good. Being in a relationship makes you think about someone other than yourself ‒ which isn’t limited to just your partner, either. Considering the feelings of one person in particular leads you to think about the feelings of others in general ‒ which is a benefit for both you and everyone around you!

2. Reduced risk of depression – One reason people go into depression is because they feel alone. When you’re with your partner, neither of you is alone! Just knowing that you have someone there for you will make you happier both mentally and physically. Science has proven that relationships do several positive things for us mentally because they provide people with purpose and meaning. They can help us heal quicker, have lower blood pressure and less stress. Being in a relationship gives you someone to talk with, someone to cuddle with, and someone for the good times and the bad.

3. Your world is expanded – Being in a relationship means you get to hear about your partner’s interests and hobbies. You’ll be exposed to all types of new things – authors, foods, movies, musicians – and you’ll already know they’re good! You also get to meet and hang out with new friends, plus you’ll meet their family and hopefully become close with them. A relationship will expand your network of friends and relatives which may bring you closer to people you would have never met otherwise.

Ultimately, the quality of a person’s relationships dictates the quality of their life. When we know how to heal our relationships and keep them strong, they can make us resilient. All of the talk you hear about how love makes us stronger isn’t just nonsense; it’s physiology. Connection with people who love and value us is pretty much our only safety net in life.
