5 Differences Between Love and Arranged Marriages
Marriage is the unity of two people who basically sign a social contract to love and care for each other forever from that day forward. While most people are used to traditional marriage where a man meets a woman, dates her for a while, and then gets married – this isn’t the case for all religions. There are two different sides to marriage – legal and spiritual. The legal side obviously includes official documents stating the names of those getting married. The spiritual side includes acceptance in front of God of the different duties and responsibilities that come with being married. The two different types of marriage (love and arranged) each adapt the two sides in slightly different ways. Listed below are five hilarious differences between them.
Food – People in traditional marriages usually eat whatever they want. If the wife wants a burger and then husband wants chicken there’s no big issue. When it comes to arranged marriages couples often eat the same thing together. In an arranged marriage the husband or wife might also be more hesitant to tell their partner what they really want to eat.
Sleeping – The difference in sleeping patterns between love and arranged marriages is noticeable (if you looked). With two people marry out of love you can imagine what their first nights together are like. This isn’t usually the case with arranged couples.
Freedom – Couples in arranged marriages often have less freedom then those married out of love. Two people married out of an arrangement may not know each other as well causing there to be less trust between them early on. Meanwhile, those married out of love have often known each other for a while and have already established trust for more freedom.
Vacations – Those who are in an arranged marriage tend to be more shy and hesitant when it comes to saying what they really want. Going on a vacation is no different. However, those who have married each other out of love will usually enjoy the same places. If not, they usually wont’ have a problem voicing their opinion.
Dowry – Believe it or not, dowry systems still exist in some countries around the world. Most people will probably never see or deal with this in a marriage out of love because it’s usually only associated with arranged marriages.
